Energy In Action: The Power of Emotions

by Sherianna Boyle, Massachusetts

Here’s the thing: You cannot escape the vital role emotions play in your existence. Connecting with Spirit is the key to your spiritual evolution and purpose. To put it simply, when you choose to shut down your emotions, it is no different than saying to your Spirit guides, “I don’t want or need your support.” Yet, when you allow yourself to feel, you open to divine love, unconditional support, guidance, healing, and abundance.

While this may seem a bit overwhelming at first, I want you to know the ball is (and always will be) in your court. You have a choice: get to know your emotions, their value, and how they can help you transform emotional stress and connect you to the Spirit realms, or not. It is up to you. My guess is something inside you knows and this truth can no longer be avoided.

Now, it’s just a matter of learning how to ask. For some of you that is easier said than done. If you ever had a question or request and then suddenly lost the courage to ask, you know what I mean. Maybe you wanted to set a boundary, request time off from work, sensed distress from a co-worker, and told yourself it wasn’t the right time. Or perhaps you are a person who used to be really great at asking questions but then received some discouraging or negative feedback, and now you associate asking with conflict or pain. Or maybe you feel like you are always in a rush and just don’t have time. Sound familiar?

If so, I totally get it. I have been there too. Yet here is something worth pondering: If you don’t ask, how will you ever learn how to fully receive? And if you can’t receive, how will you ever truly be happy?

To ask means a part of you is willing to let something in. It may be knowledge, feedback, guidance, clarity, wisdom, love, support, or connection. As you can imagine, being able to let something in often coincides with the ability to let something go—like fear, doubt, worry, and guilt, which only stalls your progress.

Now, I’m pretty sure you have experienced the consequences of not asking—we all have. Perhaps you signed a contract without inquiring about the details or took on extra work without asking for additional pay. When these life lessons happen, and they will, you can lose your stamina, courage, self-confidence, energy, and more. This can lead to life feeling like a to-do list or a relentless cycle of fulfilling the constant demands made on you. It can happen to the best of us when asking and receiving are experienced as two separate actions. I bet you are looking forward to doing things differently.

What I have learned is that we often perceive asking as a sign of distress, failure, weakness, neediness, or overwhelm. The challenge is that these types of responses cause us to suppress our emotions rather than process them. When they are allowed to stagnate in this way it harms not only our psychological wellbeing but our physical as well.

I’m sure you are wondering by now how this level of asking can be possible. How do you transform the barrage of life’s demands into developing resilience, strength, peace, and harmony? All I can say is, as asking and receiving become one, so do emotions and your Spirit.
