AT TRUTH AND LAUGHTER DENTISTRY, we believe true wellness begins with the food we eat, the thoughts we think, and the people we surround ourselves with. Our mission is to not only care for the body, but to nourish the mind and spirit—creating ripple effects of health that begin with our patients and extend to their families and communities.
This issue, we’re launching our "Heal from Within" series—where we’ll be collaborating with like-minded holistic practitioners to share quick wellness tips and healing recipes that support the body’s natural ability to thrive.
🦷 This Month's Focus: Oral Health
Your mouth is the gateway to your body. Did you know that your dental health is connected to your heart, brain, and gut health? Inflammation in the gums can signal (and even contribute to) inflammation elsewhere in the body. This is why supporting your oral microbiome through nutrition is a simple but powerful act of self-care.
🍋 Recipe: Lemon Scallion Quinoa
This vibrant dish is more than just delicious—it’s packed with nutrients that support dental health, reduce inflammation, and promote gut balance.
Why it’s great for your teeth:
Scallions (green onions): Natural antibacterial properties help fight harmful oral bacteria.
Lemon: Alkalizing and rich in vitamin C to support gum health.
Quinoa: A complete protein and rich in minerals like magnesium and phosphorus—important for strong teeth and bones.
Ingredients:
1 cup quinoa (rinsed)
2 cups water or vegetable broth
Juice of 1 lemon (plus zest if you like)
3-4 scallions, finely chopped
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional: chopped parsley, steamed broccoli or spinach for added greens
Instructions:
In a pot, bring quinoa and water (or broth) to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes until quinoa is fluffy and liquid is absorbed.
In a bowl, combine cooked quinoa, scallions, olive oil, lemon juice, and zest.
Season with salt and pepper. Mix in any additional veggies or herbs.
Serve warm or chilled as a refreshing, nourishing side dish.
